🌱 Man Arrested For Metropark Assault + Famous Toledo Actor Dies at 90

Here are the top five stories in Toledo today:

  1. Toledo Police arrested Ryan Carter, 43, for allegedly assaulting a bike rider on the Chessie Circle Trail Toledo Metropark. Carter is accused of pushing Richard Staszak, 70, to the ground before repeatedly punching him and smashing his helmet against the road. (WTVG)
  2. Toledo woman Lateisha Fonseca, 37, has been arrested for a road rage incident in which she assaulted another woman. Fonseca was allegedly caught on video breaking the driver's side window and striking the victim with a sharp object before stealing a phone and fleeing. (WTVG)
  3. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office has implemented extra patrol along a section of Monroe Street just over the Ohio/Michigan border. Authorities say the motels there have been a hotbed of criminal activity including drug deals and human trafficking. (Monroe Evening News)
  4. The Toledo-Lucas County Health Dept. Local Office on Minority Health are promoting a program called "Count the Kicks," which will help prevent stillbirths by helping parents track movements in the third trimester. Brothers United is also encouraging fathers to get involved. (WTOL)
  5. Toledo native and UToledo graduate Philip Baker Hall, known for appearances on Seinfeld, Boogie Nights, Rush Hour and Zodiac, has died at 90 years old in Los Angeles. (IndieWire)

  • Ohio Governer DeWine held a press conference addressing Ohio's HB 99 which allows teachers to carry firearms with reduced training. (WTVG)
  • The University of Toledo Lake Erie Center unveiled its new research vessel the R/V Spangler at a ceremony May 10 on Maumee Bay. The boat is named for long-time Lake Erie advocate Captain Dave Spangler. (Sandusky Register)
  • Gas prices have had an adverse effect on the City of Toledo's emergency response teams. Since May, both Toledo Police and TFRD have used roughly 40% of their fuel budget for the year. (WTOL)
