🌱 Maplewood Standoff Ends Peacefully + Children Overdose On East Side

First, today's weather:

An a.m. shower; partly sunny. High: 85 Low: 65.


Here are the top five stories in Toledo today:

  1. One man, six women and two children are unharmed after a standoff at a home in the 3000 block of Maplewood Avenue ended peacefully Monday night. Toledo Police responded to the scene around 8:30 p.m. and the house was cleared around 9:45 p.m. (WTVG)
  2. Two children overdosed at a home on Starr Avenue around 3 p.m. Monday after their grandmother gave them what was believed to be a melatonin sleep aid. The children were rushed to the hospital and are expected to survive and the incident is being investigated by the police and children services. (WTVG)
  3. Stellantis NV, owner of Jeep, is set to open its fourth primary health care and wellness center this July to benefit its employees. The clinic is a partnership with ProMedica and will be located at 3500 Executive Parkway. (Detroit News)
  4. Efforts to reduce opioid-related deaths by 40% were discussed Monday at the Mott Branch Library by the HEALing Communities Study, which is a subcommittee of the Lucas County Opiate Coalition. The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department's mobile naloxone unit was present at the meeting to provide education about medications that combat opioid use disorder. (WTOL)
  5. TARTA (the Toledo Area Transit Authority) will be offering transportation to and from the Downtown Toledo fireworks scheduled for Saturday. In addition to several regular routes, two special routes running from Royer Road and Miracle Mile on Jackman will be available. (WNWO NBC 24)

  • Traffic on Conant Street in uptown Maumee is more congested than ever with the city making it's parking spot changes permanent. Several residents fear the change will actually drive business away from the area. (WTOL)
  • Toledo Mayor Kapszukiewicz and the Toledo City Council oppose Ohio's newly enacted "heartbeat bill" following the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade and are working to ensure access to safe healthcare for women in Toledo. (WTVG)
  • "Music Under the Stars" returns to the Toledo Zoo Sundays from July 3 through August 14. The free concerts start at 7:30 p.m. and concessions are available for purchase. (WTVG)
