🌱 National Guard Toledo Test Flights + South Avenue Recycling Plant

  • A new recycling facility may be coming to the vacant lot under the South Avenue overpass, which could save thousands in transportation costs as the current facility handling Toledo's recycling is in Oberlin.
  • The Olander Park System has rebranded with new name "Outdoor Sylvania Community Parks" which also includes Fossil, Sylvan Prairie, and Southview Oak Sylvania.
  • The Toledo Air National Guard Unit 180th Fighter Wing will conduct training flights February 7 - 9.

A new recycling facility may be coming to the vacant lot under the South Avenue overpass that could save thousands in transportation costs as the current facility handling Toledo's recycling is in Oberlin. The Toledo City Council was scheduled to vote on the matter Tuesday and the center could include an educational element to promote community participation. (WTVG)
  2. The Olander Park System will now be named "Outdoor Sylvania Community Parks" which also includes Fossil, Sylvan Prairie and Southview Oak Sylvania. The rebranding comes with an updated logo that "represents a variety of scenery and activities in this diverse set of spaces." (WNWO)
  3. The University of Toledo Medical Center will host HIV primary care physician Dr. Stella Safo for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day Thursday from 7:30 - 9 AM at the Glass City Center in Downtown Toledo. Dr. Safo will also speak from 12-1 PM at UTMC's Collier Building and registration is free to everyone. (WNWO)
  4. The Toledo Air National Guard Unit 180th Fighter Wing will conduct training flights February 7 - 9. Residents may see and hear F-16 fighter jets taking off and landing until 12:30 AM as night training is an essential component according to the Ohio Air National Guard (OANG). (WTVG)
  5. The City of Oregon is weighing its options for a downtown city center that would include "a mix of retail, dining, offices and even a residential development." The proposed site sits off Route 2 and Navarre Avenue and would open sometime in 2025. (WTOL)
