🌱 Old West End School Bus Crash + Perrysburg Boys Face Charges

Good morning, Toledo! It's Wednesday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on in Toledo today.


First, today's weather:

Thunderstorms. High: 61 Low: 45.


Here are the top five stories today in Toledo:

  1. Multiple shooters were involved in a shoot-out at the Stop & Shop at Monroe Street and Auburn Avenue at 2 AM Tuesday morning. No injuries were reported but a passing car was shot as well as the storefront windows. (WTOL)
  2. Two 13-year-old boys from Perrysburg have been arrested on charges of rape for a sexual assault that may have also been partially recorded in November 2021. One of the teens is receiving the additional charge of pandering sexual oriented material involving a minor.(WNWO NBC 24)
  3. Lieutenant Jim Schulty of the Toledo Fire & Rescue Dept. saved a fellow hockey player who suffered a heart attack at Tam-O-Shanter Sunday night. Lt. Schulty used CPR and a defibrillator, and also credits quick transportation to the hospital where the victim underwent emergency triple-bypass surgery. (WTVG)
  4. A Toledo couple is out several thousand dollars to a sweepstakes scam, paying hundreds at a time for delivery fees of a $2 million lottery they did not enter. Their loss is a warning to remember that criminals behind such scams are savvy and to look out for anything that seems too good to be true. (WTVG)
  5. One man is injured after the sedan he was driving crashed into a Toledo Public school bus in the Old West End around noon on Tuesday. Two children and two adults were aboard the bus but were uninjured. (WTOL)

  • Local group Toledo Helps Ukraine will be accepting donations to send to the country after Russia's invasion. The group has secured a shipping container to send to the Polish border will be collecting items Saturday 10 AM to noon at Charles E. Boyk Law Offices in Holland. (WTOL)

  • Two local agencies, Community Pet Care Clinic and the Compassionate Village, are helping to keep pets with their families even through tough times. The groups recently assisted a victim of domestic violence who escaped a dangerous relationship and a senior citizen who lost her job for health reasons and thus lost her housing. (WTOL)
  • The University of Toledo is implementing a policy of referring to a person's chosen name in an effort to officially embrace an inclusive environment for the LGBT community. The move is significant as a sign of inclusivity when many state laws are trending the opposite. (WTOL)
  • The Toledo Department of Transportation and the Ohio Department of Transportation are looking to make major road repairs this year. Closing down a lane of the Anthony Wayne Trail south of Glendale and continuing construction on I-75 are just a few of their plans. (WTVG)
