Here are the top stories in Toledo today:
- The Lucas County OVI Task Force is setting up a sobriety checkpoint this Friday at 1125 E. Alexis Road that will operate from 8 PM to 2 AM. The checkpoint is paid for by a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. (WTOL)
- The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department is holding immunization events every Saturday in August for children returning to school. All insurance plans are accepted or, if uninsured, alternative payment options are available. (13abc Action News)
- Toledo Olympian Oshae Jones, who won a bronze medal for boxing, is to be honored with a parade on Saturday, August 21, 2021. The parade route will run from Dorr Street and Collingwood Blvd. and move along Savage Park. (Toledo City Paper)
- St. Vincent Medical Center has saved the life of a 30-year-old patient suffering from COVID-19 with the use of an ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) machine. ECMO serves to operate the heart and lungs and is relatively new technology to Northwest Ohio. (WTOL)
- Toledo's National Museum of the Great Lakes and The Sandpiper passenger boat are teaming up to bring residents new ways to explore Great Lakes history. The "Ship and Shore package" will be available for August 28 and September 11 and will include access to the museum, a trip along the Maumee River, and an online exhibit. (toledo.com)
