🌱 Palmer YMCA Free Tablet Program + Fiery I-75 Footage Released
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Toledo.

Hey, neighbors! It's me again, Brad King, your host of the Toledo Daily. By the way, check me out in this weekend's The Drowsy Chaperone by 3B Productions at the Maumee Indoor Theatre.
First, today's weather:
Partly sunny and very cold. High: 27 Low: 17.
Here are the top five stories today in Toledo:
- A woman was shot in the leg in North Toledo shortly before 1 AM Friday morning. The victim was in a backyard when someone walking down a nearby alley started shooting. No arrests have been made. (WTOL)
- The Ohio Department of Transportation has released footage of a fatal car accident after a driver and passenger were killed traveling the wrong way on I-75 in an attempt to evade Toledo Police. The chase ended in a fiery explosion after the car struck two semi-truck trailers driven by Jason Butler and Jody Cicero who both suffered minor injuries. (WTOL)
- Footage of a high speed chase involving Toledo Police and suspect Michael Jackson on February 27 has been released. Jackson is facing aggravated vehicular homicide charges after he hit and killed Mohammed Souare, a truck driver out of North Carolina. (WTVG)
- Toledoan Anya Ursu still has family in Kyiv, Ukraine and has taken leave from her job to cook traditional Ukrainian dishes, deliver them around town, and send the profits to help against Russia's war. Ursu has raised $4,000 thus far, which has been used for food and two drones for the Ukrainian army. (WNWO NBC 24)
- The Wayman D. Palmer Community YMCA in Toledo is hosting a program to help link families to free tablets and broadband internet service this weekend. The Affordable Connectivity Program sponsored by the Federal Communications Commission aims to get technology into the hands of children and families and registration can also happen over the phone. From my notebook:
- UToledo has been criticized for not handling Title IX complaints quickly enough. An incident that drew particular ire was when sexual harassment complaints against ex-professor Erik Tyger were ignored until other faculty spoke up. (LimaOhio.com)
- Impact With Hope is a volunteer organization directly helping the resistance efforts in Ukraine. Alona Matchenko and Anastasiia Kryzhanivska are leading the charge to collect donations for those suffering from the devastation of war. (WNWO NBC 24)
- Schools in Lucas County are seeing their budgets stretched with the recent hike in gas prices. With school buses getting roughly 7 miles per gallon, the increase in funds has been significant. (WNWO NBC 24)
- UToledo's College of Engineering is celebrating Women in Construction Week March 6-12. Students like Amanda Keener have enjoyed success during rotations at jobs like Douglas Co. in Holland. (Patch)
- Toledo has seen an alarming number of high-speed chases lately, some of which have been fatal. WTOL had the opportunity to ride along with Toledo Police and learn about the training officers receive when in such a situation. (WTOL)
