🌱 Parent Fires Gun At Arlington School + Lucas County DUI Checkpoints

  • 34-year-old Vanessa Hutchen fired a gun near Arlington Elementary following a dispute with another parent and faces felony charges
  • Toledo Public Schools invested in several resources after receiving millions from the American Rescue Plan Act
  • Franklin Park Mall art installation "Butterflies of Northwest Ohio" celebrates the International Year of Glass

Here are the top five stories in Toledo today:

  1. Vanessa Hutchen, 34, was charged with felony possession of a deadly weapon for firing a gun into the air following an altercation with another parent outside of Arlington Elementary School in South Toledo Tuesday. Toledo Public Schools stated they will let the police handle the matter going forward but the incident left several parents unsettled. (WTOL)
  2. Toledo Public Schools has already received $100 million from the American Rescue Plan Act and may be eligible for an additional $92 million. TPS Treasurer Ryan Stechschulte said the school has used the resources for new counselors, psychologists, and social workers after conducting meetings and gathering input on how to best use the funds. (WTVG)
  3. The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority and BGSU's Center for Regional Development have completed an economic impact analysis for the Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport. The results show that in 2021 the Toledo Airport supported more than 2,900 jobs and over $581 million in economic impact in the region. (WTVG)
  4. The Franklin Park Mall will feature a new art installation called "Butterflies of Northwest Ohio" to celebrate the International Year of Glass. The piece will be made up of 15 glass mosaic butterflies in the center court skylight in the mall. (WNWO NBC 24)
  5. Two sobriety checkpoints will be up in Lucas County Friday night at 3 Turtle Creek Road in Swanton Township and 2105 North McCord Road in Springfield Township. The checkpoints will be operated from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. by the Lucas County Operating Vehicles Intoxicated Task Force. (WTOL)

  • Peace, Love, and Happiness Block Rockin Street Fair Bash is happening this Saturday at 300 N. Superior St. between Adams and Madison. (WNWO NBC 24)
  • American opera "Blue" is showcasing this weekend at the Valentine Theatre and explores themes of race and violence through tragic events. (WTVG)
