🌱 Progress In Great Lakes Hyperloop + Vistula Neighborhood Renovation

Hey, Toledo. I'm here in your inbox today to tell you everything you need to know about what's going on in town. Here goes...


First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and pleasant. High: 82 Low: 62.


Here are the top five stories today in Toledo:

  1. The Great Lakes Hyper Loop has taken another step toward reality according to engineer Louis Lane with Hyperloop Transportation Technologies. Using magnets and a near-vacuum chamber to travel up to 700 mph, the loop would connect major Midwestern cities and create an economic boom and hundreds of thousands of jobs. (WNWO)
  2. Investors aim to develop the historical Vistula Neighborhood off Summit Street north of Downtown Toledo. The project, known as Gateway at Lowertown, hopes to bring residents and businesses to the area. (WTOL)
  3. The city of Toledo Department of Parks and Youth Services has received $500,000 in funding for youth recreation programs for the 2022-2023 school year. Residents, companies and organizations can apply for up to $50,000 for health and wellness programs. (WNWO)
  4. A woman was shot in the foot by her brother after he tried intervening in a fight between her and another woman. Toledo Police responded to the scene in the 1500 block of South Avenue at Lodge Avenue and attempted to pursue the shooter on foot. (WTOL)
  5. La Prensa, the Spanish American Organization and the Toledo Mud Hens are celebrating the 20th annual Latin Scholarship Day July 31 at Fifth Third Field. The event begins with a parade at noon that starts at Erie Street Market and ends at Monroe Street and Saint Clair. (WTVG)

  • Perrysburg man Ted Blausey, 35, has been paired with a service dog named Rose thanks to The Ability Center. Blausey, who suffered a stroke at two years old, is blind in one eye and missing a leg. He is looking forward to Rose helping him in his daily life at home and at work. (WTOL)
  • The University of Toledo Medical Center has been awarded a 4-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Only 895 hospitals out of 4,500 received such honors. (WNWO)
  • The site of the old North Towne Square Mall has been sold to Kansas City company North Point Development, who is constructing three "spec buildings." The project was aided by Toledo Councilwoman Theresa Morris, who says the project will benefit the entire Alexis Corridor. (WTOL)
