Happy Saturday, neighbors! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening today in town.


First, today's weather:

Breezy in the afternoon. High: 60 Low: 53.


Here are the top five stories today in Toledo:

  1. Portions of Hill Avenue in Toledo have been named after Zia Cooke: local basketball sensation who led South Carolina to this year's NCAA Championship. Cooke was celebrated in a ceremony led by Mayor Kapszukiewicz. (WTVG)
  2. The historic 100-year-old wall in the Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania is being torn down so the Ohio Department of Transportation can widen Monroe Street at Harroun. A replica will be constructed by 2025. (WTOL)
  3. 20 North Art Gallery will host a solo exhibition of Lenawee County artist Kenneth Thompson, who owns Flatlanders Sculpture Supply & Art Galleries near Blissfield. (The Daily Telegram)
  4. Lucas County Children Services Executive Director Robin Reese mourned the nine lives lost this year at the annual children's memorial. Six of the deaths were caused by gun violence, which Toledo Police Chief George Kral stated may have been preventable if the firearms were properly secured. (WNWO NBC 24)
  5. Daniel Rodgers was found not guilty by reason of insanity for a 2002 stabbing and sent to the Northwest Ohio Psychiatric Hospital. After receiving treatment, Rodgers now works as a case manager for the jail program at Unison Health. (WTVG)

  • The Toledo Police vow to address the violence in the city that has claimed the lives of 13 people, including two children, since the first of the year. (WTOL)
  • April is Minority Health Month, and Toledoan Melissa Montoyaschuler, 42, hopes to highlight the successful path to good health. Montoyaschuler was diagnosed with cervical cancer after a routine exam she had put off for a few years. (WTOL)
  • Toledo Union Leaders gathered at Tribute Park to celebrate Workers Memorial Day, the anniversary of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Five workers died while on the job this year. (WNWO NBC 24)
  • The Toledo Rep presents a scene from its upcoming show "American Son," along with Actors Collaborative Toledo. The play is the story of a bi-racial couple who must confront their feelings when their son is detained by local police. (WNWO NBC 24)
  • Several Toledo officials have voiced their support for the upcoming levy funding the Lucas County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board. The renewal would provide $7.6 million for the next 10 years for several vital community programs. (WTOL)
