🌱 Sylvania Rabbi Charged With Rape + West Alexis Burglar Caught

Here are the top five stories today in Toledo:

  1. Rabbi David Kaufman of Temple Shomer Emunim in Sylvania has been fired after being arrested on rape charges by the Sylvania Township Police. Temple President Dr. Jeanine Huttner and Executive Director Lynn Nusbaum issued a statement regarding Kaufman's termination after police made them aware of the criminal investigation. (Cleveland Jewish News)
  2. Toledo Police were able to arrest a burglar after the suspect broke into a closed West Toledo gas station around 1 AM Thursday morning. The suspect was arrested at the Sunoco on West Alexis and Jackman after smashing the storefront window. (WTOL)
  3. 6 teens robbed the Circle K at 3516 Airport Highway just before 3 AM Wednesday morning. Two of the suspects were armed with BB guns and shot the clerk before stealing $15 worth of tobacco products behind the counter. (WTOL)
  4. Rashad Gaines has been sentenced to 31 years in prison for the 2018 murder of Martrece Dobson. The case first went before a jury in October 2018 after Gaines shot Dobson multiple times in the chest as the two sat in a car at the corner of E. Oakland and Franklin in Toledo. (WTVG)
  5. Ronnie Spence has been arrested on charges of arson for a house fire that occurred Wednesday morning in the 200 block of Western Avenue. Spence is accused of firing a flare gun into the home and causing the fire. (WTVG)

  • Last week U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur announced Toledo Public Schools will receive $2.5 million in federal funding. Half of the funds will be used to upgrade the Toledo Technology Academy. (WTOL)
  • Macaron Day is Saturday, March 26 and the first 300 patrons at So Sweet Pastries on Talmadge will receive one for free. The shop will also accept donations for the No Women Left Behind program, which provides scholarships for low income populations. (Toledo City Paper)
