🌱 Teen Charged In S. Toledo Murder + Stolen Cremated Remains Returned

Hey, everybody! It's Friday in Toledo and I'm back in your inbox to get you caught up on the most important things happening in town. In today's issue, you'll read about these stories and more:

  • UPDATE: The cremated remains of a Luddington, MI man were returned just two days after they were stolen from a car parked at the Glendale Garden Cafe.
  • Toledo Police have arrested a 15-year-old after a Shot Spotter alert near the 1100 block of Waverly around 12:30 PM Wednesday.
  • Cedrick Belmon Jr., 18, was arrested for the July 2022 shooting death of 29-year-old Dominick Barnett in South Toledo.

  1. UPDATE: The cremated remains of a Luddington, MI man were returned just two days after they were stolen from a car parked at the Glendale Garden Care. The Waterville man entrusted with the remains reports "someone ultimately did the right thing." (WTVG)
  2. Toledo Police have detained a 15-year-old after a Shot Spotter alert near the 1100 block of Waverly around 12:30 PM Wednesday. TPD recovered three firearms at the scene and the teenager has not been charged at this time. (WTVG)
  3. Cedrick Belmon Jr., 18, was arrested for the July 2022 shooting death of 29-year-old Dominick Barnett in South Toledo. Belmon was 17 when the crime was committed and has been charged with murder, felonious assault, having weapons while under disability and tampering with evidence. (WTOL)
  4. The family of Stone Foltz, who died following a night of hazing at a former BGSU fraternity, has begun meeting some of the recipients of his organ donation. Cory and Shari Foltz sent letters to the recipients hoping to make a connection. (WTOL)
  5. Catholic Charities Diocese of Toledo serves 19 counties providing "meals, pantries, emergency housing, confidential crisis help, social education, neighborhood cleanup, beautification and disaster relief."   • The otter population is returning to Toledo along the Maumee River after nearly disappearing since the 1930s due to "habitat loss and overhunting." (WTVG)
  • The Cherry Street Mission's Life Revitalization Center is closed temporarily as crews repair a water pipe. The center is expected to open February 4 though both men's and women's facilities remain open. (WTVG)
  • Toledo's first Black-owned barber college will open at the corner of Byrne and Glendale and will host its first classes next month. Owner Antwaun Turner hopes Toledo Barber College will help offer an alternative for youth involved in violence. (WTVG)
  • General Motors has awarded Owens Community College and six other community colleges around the nation a $600,000 grant "to help meet the growing demand for job-ready workers." Officials from Owens toured the GM Toledo Propulsions Systems plant Wednesday and the funds will help provide training and educational opportunities. (WTVG)
