Here are the top stories today in Toledo:
- The Lucas County coroner has confirmed that 2-year-old Jordynn Smith's death on August 12, 2021 was the result of exposure to fentanyl. The toddler was found dead in bed at an East Weber Street home and is believed to be Lucas County's youngest fentanyl victim. (WNWO NBC 24)
- One adult and four children were hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash occurred on Thursday in East Toledo. The crash occurred when a minivan traveling east on Varland was hit by a vehicle that failed to yield to the red light on Woodville. (13abc Action News)
- The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department held a news conference Thursday where Health Commissioner Eric Zgodzinski shared that five pediatric COVID cases have resulted in hospitalizations in the last four days. Health officials are alarmed at the rising number in positive cases and hospitalizations involving children. (WTOL)
- A second man has now died after he was hospitalized for a shooting that occurred in Central Toledo at Palmetto and Ayers. 26-year-old Mannoletto Gilmore had been hospitalized in critical condition but died from his injuries Thursday morning. (WTOL)
- An outside employee was fired after she brought a firearm into Robinson Elementary. The person was not employed by Toledo Public Schools, but rather by RFS Behavioral Health, also known as TACKLE, an external mental health counseling agency. (13abc Action News)
