🌱 Toledo ‘Love’ Mural Upgrades + Man Convicted For Shooting Car Thief

Good morning, people of Toledo! It's me again, Brad King, your host of the Toledo Daily.


First, today's weather:

Breezy, very warm and humid. High: 86 Low: 68.


Here are the top five stories in Toledo today:

  1. Demetric Williams was convicted of felonious assault for shooting Jaden Goss in November 2021 after Goss allegedly stole his car. The incident happened in the 4200 block of Monroe Street near Douglas. Williams will be sentenced July 6. (WTVG)
  2. Tyrefa Hill, 27, pleaded not guilty for the crime of shooting and killing her ex Derrick Kimble on May 4. Hill is scheduled for trial on June 28. (WTVG)
  3. Toledo Fire & Rescue posted a video of a kitten rescued from the walls of a North Toledo home. (WTOL)
  4. The Toledo Public Schools Foundation has launched its Write the Future initiative which aims to provide $1.5 million in resources each year for the Toledo Excel's College Prep Program, mentorship with Junior Achievement, and the TPS Career Technology Education Department. (WNWO NBC 24)
  5. The original artists of the Toledo Loves Love mural at Adams and 13th Street hope to freshen up the landmark through fundraising efforts this summer. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the updates will be completed by Love Fest on July 16. (WNWO NBC 24)

  • Former gang member Malik Smith now spends his time as a community advocate for the Englewood neighborhood. Smith says he's seen the violence in Toledo increase firsthand. (WTOL)
  • Washington Local Schools was hit by a cyber attack affecting its phones, internet, email, WiFi networks, and Google Classroom. The attack came as Whitmer High School seniors are in the middle of final exams. (WTVG)
  • Bowling Green schools is teaming up with the Toledo Zoo to plant new gardens at two of its school buildings. (BG Independent Media)
