Here are the top five stories today in Toledo:
- Elijah Rome, 26, was shot near Sammy's Mart at the corner of Arlington and Toronto in South Toledo. Toledo Police are investigating and Rome was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. (WTOL)
- Toledo native and Olympic Bronze Medalist Oshae Jones was the keynote speaker at the 13th annual Toledo Ladies for the Clubs luncheon last Friday. Hosted by the Boys & Girls Club of Toledo, the event also featured Waite High School senior and Toledo region Youth of the Year Ricardo Hernandez. (WNWO NBC 24)
- Several Black community leaders in Toledo have expressed the need to recognize the significance of the racially-motivated mass shooting in Buffalo. Albert Earl and Reggie Williams run the Frederick Douglass Community Association, which provides mental health services for the community. (WTOL)
- Toledo native Emma Roe, 11, has tragically lost her battle with leukemia. Cancer Connection of Northwest Ohio president and founder Jean Schoen acknowledges the devastation of such an outcome and hopes that community outreach helped alleviate at least some of Emma's burden. (WTVG)
- Toledo leaders are prioritizing youth summer programming, especially with the uptick in violence involving young people. Vinny Riccardi, assistant director at The Believe Center, stresses the importance of activities to help steer kids away from negative behaviors. (WTVG)

- The TOLEDO LOVES LOVE mural is set to be upgraded this summer for its 10th anniversary thanks to efforts from the original artists and George Thompson, owner of Georgjz 419. The mural originally celebrated the marriage of Toledoans Rebecca Facey and Angie Carriker in 2012, before the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case made marriage equality the law of the land in 2015.
