🌱 Toledo Voters Reject Issue 21 + Two Dead In West Toledo House Fire

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Toledo.

Morning, everybody! I'm here right on time with your Thursday edition of the Toledo Daily, full of all the things you need to know about what's happening locally. Today's issue includes:

  • A man and woman died in a West Toledo house fire Wednesday.
  • Toledo voters rejected Issue 21, which would have allowed for a third mayoral term and road repairs not funded by tax increases.
  • Toledo City Council voted to approve $800,000 in medical debt relief.

Here are the top five stories in Toledo today:

  1. Isaiah Meyer-Crothers has released a statement following the news about Sylvania native Mitchell Miller's release from the Boston Bruins NHL team following an investigation into his bullying record as a juvenile. Meyer-Crothers wrote a lengthy statement outlining the years of bullying he suffered and described Miller's attempt to reach out to him years later. (WTOL)
  2. Toledo City Council is imploring Mayor Kapszukiewicz to reopen lines of communication between between council and his office he closed last week for unspecified reasons.. Mayor Kapsukiewicz went on record suggesting the council address the issue of continuing to employ City Auditor Jake Jaksetic, who reportedly hasn't performed an audit in eight years. (WTOL)
  3. A man and woman were found dead in a house fire in the 3800 block of Leybourn Avenue in West Toledo. Toledo Fire & Rescue responded to the scene around 12:35 PM Wednesday and an investigation is underway. (WNWO)
  4. The Coalition for Peaceful Toledo Neighborhoods will hold its second Town Hall on Wednesday at St. Martin de Porres Church at 5 PM. The meeting aims to build "community engagement, partnership building and calling for a return of community policing and of Toledo's neighborhood block watch program." (WTVG)
  5. Toledo City Council approved medical debt relief legislation using funds from the American Rescue Plan Act in a 7-5 vote Wednesday. $800,000 will be used along with an additional $800,000 from the Lucas County Commissioners for Toledo and Lucas County residents. (WTVG)

  • Toledoans are gearing up to spend Thanksgiving serving dinner at the Cherry Street mission. More volunteers are welcome as the center prepares to host over 500 people. (WTOL)
  • Erek Evans, 32, was found shot to death in the 600 block of Locust Avenue in North Toledo around 3 PM Wednesday. TPD Detectives are investigating and anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers. (WTOL)
  • The East Toledo Family Center is asking Toledo City Council to approve plans for a 23,000 square foot expansion at its location on Varland and East Broadway. The project is estimated to cost $15 million for additional programs to serve families. (WTOL)
  • After ShotSpotter detected 26 shots fired near Mulberry and E. Oakland in North Toledo, two individuals presented to an area hospital, one suffering gunshot wounds. The individuals, aged 24 and 35, reportedly exchanged gunfire with another vehicle Tuesday afternoon. (WTOL)
  • Toledo voters rejected Issue 21, which would have allowed for a third mayoral term along with road improvement projects not funded by additional taxes. (WTOL)
