🌱 Toledo's Zia Cooke NCAA Champion + Arrest In Maumee Avenue Shooting

Here are the top five stories today in Toledo:

  1. Toledo man Jeremy Huebner has been found guilty of rape by a Lucas County Jury on Monday. Huebner is accused of raping a child under the age of 13 in 2018 and is scheduled for sentencing on April 20. (WTVG)
  2. Toledo's Zia Cooke, a junior guard for the South Carolina Gamecocks, played in the NCAA Women's Championship Game on Sunday. Cooke is a graduate of Rogers High School where she led the Rams in back to back state championships in 2018 and 2019. (WTOL)
  3. A new jail in Lucas County will be built with the help of a $2 million grant from the federal government. U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur announced Monday that funds from the U.S. Department of Justice will go toward new facilities with a wing dedicated to mental health and behavioral care. (WTOL)
  4. The University of Toledo Medical Center has acquired technology to assist with spinal surgeries. UTMC performed its first surgery using the robotic tool in February, which features 3D mapping technology for better precision. (WTVG)
  5. Toledo Police have arrested 42-year-old Jason Black for the shooting of 53-year-old Sherrie Cox in the 500 block of Maumee Avenue Thursday night. Cox initially claimed she was shot by three juveniles but the TPD Gang Task Force arrested Black, who initially fled on foot, while looking for suspects. (WTVG)

  • The Ohio Dept. of Wildlife reports there are more than 800 nesting pairs of bald eagles in the state of Ohio; about 100 more pairs than just two years ago. A large number of eagles are in Northwest Ohio and efforts to clean up Lake Erie have contributed to the robust population. (WTOL)
  • 24-year-old Nicholas Luderman of Napoleon has been arrested on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide after causing a crash on I-75 that left two dead and others in critical condition. Luderman is accused of striking another vehicle while traveling south on I-75, which caused the struck vehicle to cross into the northbound lanes and strike additional vehicles. (WTVG)
  • The Kalamazoo Wings had an early lead against the Toledo Walleye during Sunday's game at the Huntington Center, but the Walleye managed to make four goals in a row to secure victory. (WNWN-FM)
  • 66-year-old Raymond Wlodarski was killed in a car accident on Saturday morning around 2 AM at the intersection of Woodruff Avenue and Franklin Avenue. Wlodarski failed to stop for a red flashing signal and struck a vehicle driven by 31-year-old Harold Bowman. (WTOL)
