Morning, everybody! I'm here with your Thursday edition of the Toledo Daily, filled with all the community news you need to know right now. Here's the lowdown.

Here are the top five stories today in Toledo:

  1. Toledo Police new recruit Officer Caila Barringer, 23, has been charged with operating a vehicle while impaired, hit-skip and reckless operation. Officer Barringer is accused of crashing on Densmore near Kenwood Saturday afternoon and had a firearm in her purse after first saying it was in the trunk. (WTVG)
  2. Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz tested positive for COVID Tuesday and is reportedly experiencing minor symptoms and is working from home while observing all required protocols. (WTOL)
  3. The trial in the death of 3-year-old Braylen Noble against his mother Dajnae Cox and grandmother Bobbie Johnson has been postponed until September 12. In September 2020 Braylen's body was found in the family apartment complex pool despite it having been searched five days prior. (WTVG)
  4. The Cherry Street Mission is reaching out more than ever as Toledo experiences an 800% increase in homelessness. The mission offers aut0-tech and welding classes and assists with finding long-term housing. (WTOL)
  5. Lucas County Children Services celebrated its yearly tradition of honoring those graduating from high school and GED programs with a motor parade around Adams Street. Employees of LCCS, the Juvenile Court and foster parents lined the streets. Graduates received computers, household items and gift cards. (WNWO NBC 24)

  • Two Maumee homes are scheduled for open houses on Boulder Ridge Drive and Violet Lane. (Toledo Patch)
  • The City of Toledo is implementing a new water bill forgiveness program if applicants meet certain criteria. (WTVG)
  • A major road construction project may take place in 2024, closing Talmade Road between Laskey and Alexis in West Toledo. (WTOL)
  • Staff at the University of Toledo Medical Center participated in active shooter training on Tuesday. Recent events have made this message of "run, hide or fight" particularly poignant. (WTVG)
