🌱 TPS Students Eat Laced Candy + North Toledo Train Accident

Good day, people of Toledo! Brad King here with your Friday issue of the Toledo Daily.


First, today's weather:

Some rain and a thunderstorm. High: 58 Low: 46.


Here are the top five stories today in Toledo:

  1. 3 people, including a child, were hurt in a car accident Wednesday evening at Reynolds Road and Angola in South Toledo. The southbound lanes of Reynolds were closed and at least two vehicles were involved. (WTOL)
  2. Students at Reynolds Elementary potentially ate laced candy given to them by a classmate, a Toledo Public School spokesperson reported Wednesday. Three students reported feeling ill after ingesting the candy, which may have been laced with an unidentified illegal substance. (WTVG)
  3. The Toledo Police have arrested a shooting suspect after a victim was grazed by a bullet in the 600 block of Thayer near Broadway. The shooting happened Thursday just before 3 PM and the identities of the shooter and victim have not been released. (WTVG)
  4. A pickup truck ran into a train on North Detroit Avenue near Sylvania Avenue and Lagrange Street Wednesday night. It is unclear if the train was in motion or stopped but no warning lights illuminated the area. (WTOL)
  5. Bernadette Peters and the Toledo Symphony Orchestra are staging a concert on Saturday, April 9 at the Toledo Museum of Art's Peristyle Theatre. Peters is a Golden Globe and Tony Award winner known for her Broadway, film, and television roles. (BG Independent Media)

  • HOPE Toledo and Pete Kadens of Ottawa Hills have started a scholarship fund of post-secondary education for Scott High School graduates. Abena Rowland is the first HOPE Toledo graduate, having received her degree from Stautzenberger College. (WTOL)
  • Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz cut the ribbon for Nuestra Gente Community Projects Inc.'s new bilingual food pantry in South Toledo.   • The City of Toledo is hiring a gender equity manager in an effort to eliminate discrimination against women in the area. Following a process adopted by the United Nations in the late 1970's, the new position will address issues like equal pay and the status of women in economics, education, and poverty. (WTVG)
