🌱 Walleye Headed To Finals + Reynolds Student Expelled For Threats

Happy Saturday, people of Toledo! Here's everything you need to know going on in town today.


First, today's weather:

An afternoon thunderstorm. High: 82 Low: 61.


Here are the top five stories in Toledo today:

  1. Toledo Police are investigating after Jeremiah Davis, 20, was shot in the elbow in the 1300 block of Avondale Avenue around 11 p.m. Thursday. TPD recovered a shotgun and shells at the scene and shells in Davis' clothing at the hospital. They do not have a suspect. (WTVG)
  2. Toledo Police responded to Reynolds Elementary School after a 13-year-old student created a "hit list" naming 13 of his classmates. The student was expelled but no charges will be brought. (WTVG)
  3. The Toledo Walleye swept the Wheeling Nailers and are headed to the conference finals on May 20. (WTOL)
  4. The City of Toledo and Lucas County are reviving the Restoration Toledo Project through the Correctional Treatment Facility. Inmates will be paid an hourly rate to beautify the community and learn job skills. (WNWO NBC 24)
  5. Sgt. Mel Stachur of the Toledo Police Dept. gang task force says it's a new generation of young gang members contributing to the increasing violence Toledo has seen the past few years. An influx of high-powered weapons also contribute to the issue. (WTOL)

  • Toledo celebrates the end of Nurses Week, honoring those who work relentlessly and have shown incredible strength and resilience through the COVID-19 pandemic. (WTOL)
  • The Ohio Department of Transportation has ended a study called the Route 23 Connect Initiative a year early. The endeavor would have sought to fix the issue of Toledo being the only metro city in Ohio that goes through stoplights, nearly 40 of them, to reach Columbus. (Press Release Desk)
  • The Toledo Small Business Development Center at the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce has won the 2020 Great Lakes Regional Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Excellence and Innovation Award, given out by the U.S. Small Business Administration. (Press Release Desk)
  • North Michigan Street man Sy Kreais has taken it upon himself to transform an overgrown lot into a community greenspace. Kreais said the space has been mistaken for a Metropark and he's been praised by Lucas County Landbank CEO David Mann. (WTVG)
  • Resources such as Bethany House say the need for domestic violence services are increasing, including a concerning rise in fatalities throughout Northwest Ohio. Education and shelter is available 24/7 from places like bethanyhousetoledo.org and the ywca.org. (WNWO NBC 24)
