Zonta Club to hear update on Rwanda

Debbie King, a lecturer in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Akron, will share notes from her summer 2012 trip to Rwanda at the next meeting of the Zonta Club of Hudson, which takes place 7 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Barlow Community Center, 41 S. Oviatt St. The meeting is open to the public and refreshments will be served.

King, a geographer, is a charter member of the Zonta Club of Hudson. She will present highlights of her trip and share her experiences in the African nation, which continues to recover from a civil war and genocide in the 1990s. King also will discuss Zonta International's programs in Rwanda to eliminate mother to child transmission of HIV and gender based violence.

Zonta Club of Hudson is a member of Zonta International. The predominantly female organization works to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy.

In Rwanda, Zonta International and its partners provide services to help mothers give birth to HIV-free children. In addition to its advocacy efforts to reduce violence against women and girls, the organization also supports One Stop Centers where victims of gender-based violence can access essential services to help in their recovery.
