Some tips for a fun weekend

It's time to Get Out and enjoy the some of the things Northeast Ohio has to offer.

Why Go: Fair season is in full gear now, and this is one of the area's best. Don't miss the racing pigs and thousands of animal exhibits. Over 100 food vendors. Free country music concert tonight with Randy Montana and Kip Moore. Weekend tribute bands to the Moody Blues, Genesis and Pink Floyd. Midway rides and plenty of children's activities to choose from. Fireworks on Saturday and Demolition Derby on Sunday.

Pricing: General Admission $6, Children under 12 and Seniors $5, Rides and grandstand events extra. Special $2 Kids Day Admission today for children 4 to 16 years old.

2. Rock The Park: Disco Inferno

Where/When: Glen Chamberlin Park, 10260 Ravenna Rd., Twinsburg.

Friday, August 12, 8 p.m.

Why Go: See local disco icons Sonny "D" Lite and Darius A. Quarius take the stage for a night of groovy '70s music. Their platform shoes and loud clothes will turn the whole place into Funky Town for the evening. Concert is sponsored by

Pricing: General admission $10, VIP Deck $35, you must be 21 or over to attend. 

3. Feast of Assumption

Where/When: Little Italy and Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, 12021 Mayfield Rd., east side of Cleveland.

Friday, Aug. 12, 6 p.m. to midnight.

Saturday, Aug. 13, noon to midnight.

Sunday, Aug. 14, noon to midnight.

Monday, Aug. 15, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Why Go: It's the 113th edition of this classic Cleveland event. Eat some of the best Italian food in Northeast Ohio. Enjoy a huge street party with games of chance, bands, rides, arts, crafts and more. Observe the solemn candelight procession on Monday evening and then closing fireworks.

Pricing: Entry free and open to the public.

4. Local Art Exhibition: In the Distance: Pastel Landscapes

Where/When: Solon Center for the Arts, 6315 SOM Center Rd., Solon.

Exhibition runs until September 30. 

Why Go: The center presents its latest exhibition, featuring Northeast Ohio artist Gary Sluzewski. He shows his "works of art reflective of nature." Sluzewski is a Kent State University graduate and has worked as art director for Cleveland Magazine. He's lectured at Youngstown State, Kent State, The University of Akron and the Northern Ohio Illustrators Society.

Pricing: Free and open to the public.       

5. Wine Tasting: The AAAA's of August

Where/When: Western Reserve Wines, The Shoppes of Solon North, 28300 Miles Rd., Unit B, Solon.

Saturday, August 13, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Take a break from shopping and enjoy the flavors of the world close to home. Relax and sip wines from Alsace, Australia, Austria and Argentina. Hosted by Tommy of Euro Fine Wines.

Pricing: Tasting event is $5, you must be 21 or over to participate.

6. Cleveland Indians Baseball

Where/When: Progressive Field, 2401 Ontario St., downtown Cleveland.

Tonight, Aug. 11, 7:05 p.m. - Indians T-Shirt Giveaway.

Friday, Aug. 12, 7:05 p.m. - Elvis Fireworks and Half-Price Student Tickets.

Saturday, Aug. 13, 7:05 p.m. - Mike Hargrove Human Rain Delay Bobble Head Giveaway.

Sunday, Aug. 14, 1:05 p.m. - Kids Fun Day, 12 and Under Run the Bases.

Why Go: Your Cleveland Indians are in a pennant race. They battle division rivals the Detroit Tigers tonight and the Minnesota Twins this weekend. Support your team and cheer them to a victory as they fight for a playoff spot.
