Public Hearing Set for Monday Over Church Site
Destiny Church will present plans for construction of a new building on Darrow Road to surrounding residents
will present plans for a new church building during a public hearing set for Monday, March 7 at 7 p.m.
The church is seeking approval from the Twinsburg Planning Commission for a conditional use permit, allowing them to construct a new building on property they purchased at 9597 and 9561 Darrow Road.
They will present their project to residents of the surrounding area and the planning commission will then decide whether or not they will recommend the conditional use to City Council.
Marc Cohen, chair of the planning commission, said at Monday's meeting that even though plans are in the preliminary stages, some issues will need to be addressed in the future.
“There’s quite a few things that will come up in the site plan that aren’t a part of this right now,” Cohen said.
Destiny will come back for final site approval in April, but there will likely be numerous variances they will need to address as the project goes on, Cohen said.
Larry Finch, director of planning and community development, raised a question about how they would use the house that currently resides on the property. Scott Whitley, the architect on the project, said plans for the house included residential office space, patronage for visiting pastors, and residence for church pastors and staff.
“If it’s used as a pastor’s residence, and you have conditional use for both sites, that’s an accessory for church use and I think the issue with zoning would be null and void,” Finch said. “But that’s something we can talk about as the site plan proceeds.”
The commission told Whitley to be prepared to address any concerns residents may have, including traffic issues the church may create.
