Tigers Tie Hudson for District Track Title

Twinsburg sends large contingent to Division I regional meet this week

Twinsburg's boys' and girls' track and field teams enjoyed some life in the fast lane last week.

The Tiger boys finished with a team total of 80 points at the Austintown-Fitch Division I District meet, good for a first-place tie with Hudson. Twinsburg's girls finished with a score of 89.50 points, placing them third behind Fitch and Warren Harding.

The teams return to Fitch this week for regional competition on Wednesday and Friday. The top four qualifiers in each event will advance to the state championships June 3-4 at Ohio State University.

Aaron Macer had a big meet for the Tiger boys, winning the high jump competition after clearing 6-4 and placing second in the 100 meters with an 11.19 clocking. Macer also anchored the second-place 4x400-meter relay (43.38), running with teammates Tre Jones, John Barton and Mike Minisall.

Garrett Crichlow also captured a district crown for Twinsburg, hitting the finish line at 4:25.36 to win the 1600 meters.

The Tigers picked up a second place from Christian Moermond in the pole vault (13-6). Fourth-place qualifiers were the 4x800-meter relay of Tommy King, Crichlow, Matt Kelly and Will Myers (8:20.52), John Barton in the 200 meters (22.67) and the 4x400-meter relay of DeNorris Turner, Barton, Will Myers and Stefon Branch (3:27.59).

Essence Bell was a double qualifier for the Twinsburg girls, taking second place in the shot put (38-10.75) and third in the discus (109-92). Mercedes Hobbs was second in the discus (124-01) while Taylor Ware took second in the long jump (16-11.75).

The Lady Tigers had two qualifiers in the 400 meters with Jasmine Smith placing second (59.69) and Brie Costa finishing fourth (1:01.21). Taking third places were Emily Kazarinoff in the 100-meter hurdles (15.49), the 4x100-meter relay of Taylor Coghlan, Kirsten Isaac, Siera Strozier and Ware (49.50) and the 4x400-meter relay of Costa, Coghlan, Kelsey Jones and Jasmine Smith (4:06.40).

Twinsburg's girls also advance the fourth-place 4x800-meter relay of Jones, Olivia Webb, Ericka Hegrat and Amanda D'Agostino (10:16.34) and the fourth-place 4x200-meter relay of  Jordan Laley, Isaac, Strozier and Costa (1:46.85).
