The 2014 Twinsburg Charter Review Commission has been meeting for the past four weeks on Monday evenings at 7:00pm in Council Chambers at City Hall.
This commission appointed by City Council is formed every five years per the City Charter. Their mission is to review the City Charter and propose amendments for citizens to vote on at a future election. Many folks believe the City Charter is like our local Constitution, providing for how we desire to be governed.
There has been proposal from Citizen Auditors of Ohio, Loren Sengstock regarding possible possible term limits for the Mayor and City Council positions; recommendations for a five year budget forecast and capital projects planning updated annually by the Mayor with assistance from the Finance Director; performance reviews for the position of Law Director and more City Council control over the position; and forfeiture of office for Council members that include issues like denying the citizens the right to vote resulting from citizen legal actions in the courts.
Sally Gaydosh once again reminded the commission members how important Charter Section 7.A01 is for the people to be able to vote on zoning districts, uses, etc for controlling the future of our communities development. This is a major difference from other communities in Summit County and has severed the citizens well over the years. The meeting on Monday, March 3, 2014 @ 7:00 pm will primarily be used to address this critical portion of our Charter. Citizens are encouraged to attend.
These meetings have been poorly attended by the citizens of Twinsburg, however, Active Citizens of Twinsburg, Statutory Agent, Sally Gaydosh and Trustee, Loren Sengstock, have been present and are providing videos of the meetings on the www.activecitizensoftwinsburg.com website so they are available 24 hours a day to the residents so everyone can keep current on what our government will look like into the future.
