WESTLAKE, OH — Two drunken-driving related car crashes happened nearly simultaneously on Nov. 5 in Westlake, police said.

At 9:15 p.m. a car struck a brick mailbox on Primrose Lane, police said. The driver told police a deer had jumped onto the roadway, causing her to swerve. However, she could not explain why she had tried to drive away from the scene on three tires, police said.

The driver appeared intoxicated, police said, so she was field tested and taken into custody. She refused to take a breath test and has been accused of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, refusing a chemical test (with a prior OVI conviction) and failure to control her vehicle.

At nearly the same time, callers reported a vehicle had left the road and hit a fire hydrant and garbage cans on Walter Road.

The driver on Walter told a nurse, who had stopped to help, that he had drank too much at Loco Leprechaun Bar, police said. The driver was hurt in the crash and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
