2 Westlake Students Competing In National Geography Bee

Lee Burneson and Dover Intermediate School will be sending two and eighth grade and sixth grade students, respectively, to state competition

WESTLAKE, OH - If you love geography, it's your favorite time of the year. The National Geographic Geography Bee is in full force and Lee Burneson Middle School and Dover Intermediate School will be sending two and eighth grade and sixth grade students, respectively, to state competition.

Logan Evans, eighth grade, and Megan Wacker, sixth grade, will be going to the Ohio State Bee at the Fawcett Center in Columbus on March 31. For Evans, it's his second trip to the state competition.

The winner of the state competition will qualify for the National Geographic Bee Championship. That event will be held May 14 to May 17 at the National Geographic Society Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The Geography Olympiad began in 2012 as a nationwide competition to test geography skills in American students. The program is also meant to foster geography education in America.

The National Geographic website says that about 10,000 students from across the nation are competing in the geography bee. The winners of the national competition will have the chance to compete for possible college scholarships.
