21 Cars Broken Into in Settlers Reserve Development in Westlake: Police Blotter

WESTLAKE, OH - This week's police blotter comes with a few easy-to-remember lessons: always lock your car, don't burn buildings down without at least removing the contents of the building, and don't run over your foot with your own car.

Obstructing Official Business, Nov. 25 - A mistake during the demolition of a Maple Ridge resident's shed caused the contents of the shed to go up in flames. When police confronted the demolition crew, one of the workers falsely identified himself as his brother. He hid his real identity because he had an outstanding warrant from the Cuyahoga County Sherriff's Office. Police say two other Cleveland men (20 and 18-years-old) refused to identify themselves and were arrested for Obstructing Official Business. The 32-year-old Garfield Heights man who started the open burning was summonsed for that offense.

Theft, Nov. 25 - 'Tis the season for package theft. A Detroit Road woman had a package delivered to her house and when she went to retrieve it she found that someone had torn open the package and stolen the $127 jacket she ordered. That same day, a Radcliffe Drive woman's $1,700 dress was also stolen from her porch.

DCI, Nov. 26 - A 36-year-old woman was arrested after she got into an argument with her ex over their daughter. The woman was intoxicated when police arrived and was arrested.

DCI, Nov. 26 - Don't ask a police officer to arrest you, there's a chance you'll get your wish. An intoxicated 38-year-old Westlake man was stumbling along Crocker Road. The man had just been in an argument with his girlfriend. Rather than go home, he asked a police officer to arrest him. To no one's surprise, the officer obliged and placed him into custody.

Fraud, Nov. 27 - Someone used a Brewster Drive woman's identity to open an account. The woman's credit monitoring service caught the fraudulent account and it was closed with no charges being made.

Theft, Nov. 27 - More unlocked cars were rifled through in Westlake. Police have asked residents to lock their cars several times, yet 21 unlocked cars were gone through in the Settlers Reserve development. The development is located off of Hilliard Road. Loose change and a knife were taken.

Threat, Nov. 28 - A 23-year-old man was threatened with physical violence, twice, by an unknown man who came into his place of employment. The man told police he thinks the suspect may be the boyfriend of a coworkers.

Accident, Nov. 29 - A 46-year-old man ran over his foot with his own car while dropping his kids off for school. After letting his kids out at the Hilliard Boulevard Board of Education building, the man accidentally left his 2013 Subaru Outback in gear. The rolling vehicle crushed his right foot. The man was taken to St. John Medical Center by the Westlake Fire Department and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
