4 Westlake Students Sign College Letters Of Intent

Meet four student-athletes that will be joining Midwest colleges.

WESTLAKE, OH — Four Westlake High School student athletes signed letters of intent to play college sports this week. All four students will stay in the Midwest next year.

Kathleen Droba will attend Adrian College, in Michigan, where she will continue her women's field hockey career. She won the Colin Teets Perseverance Award for her role on the team. She also lettered in softball and is a member of the National Art Honor Society. She plans on majoring in pre-med.

Edwin Schartman will continue his tennis career at Baldwin Wallace University. Edwin was a key part of Westlake's Southwestern Conference Championship team. He is a three-time All First-Team performer and won titles in 2nd doubles (in 2016 and 2017) and 1st Doubles (2018). He said he plans to major in music education.

Sean Padden, another Westlake tennis player, will be heading to John Carroll University (the rival of Baldwin Wallace, no less). Sean is a member of the National Honor Society and an honor roll student. He has been named First Team All SWC for three straight seasons. This season he was voted MVP in the SWC by the conference's coaches. He is also a two-time district qualifier. He wants to major in business.

Eric Bechtel will be joining Schartman at Baldwin Wallace in 2018. A lacrosse player he will suit up for the Yellow Jackets next year. He was a captain for the Demon lacrosse team the past two years, a two-time ALl Region Selection and will be Westlake's all time leader in goals, assists and points. He also earned letters in swimming and football. He said he also wants to major in business.
