Accused Hit-Skip Driver Fled Scene Of Westlake Accident

WESTLAKE, OH — Police pursued a car that hit another vehicle and then fled the scene on Thursday night. The car was followed into Westlake.

Avon and Sheffield police were involved in dealing with the initial accident, with Avon officers staying with the hit car on Nagle Road. Sheffield officers stopped the fleeing car not far from the accident.

Westlake police arrived and interviewed the driver of the car that left the scene. The driver told police he was scared, which caused him to flee the scene, according to a police account. The driver did not know if the other driver was injured, police added.

The accused hit-skip driver, a 46-year-old from Sheffield Village, showed signs of intoxication, police said. The man told officers he had been drinking before hitting the other car. He was field tested and then arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle impaired.

The man was taken to Westlake jail and was given a breath test. He was two times over the legal limit, police said.

The driver of the other car was taken to the emergency department and then released, police said.
