WESTLAKE, OH - A 14-month-old baby was rescued from a locked car parked at the Main Street Garage at Crocker Park on Saturday afternoon, police said.

At about 12:30 p.m., Crocker Park Security called police and said there was a baby locked in an unoccupied car. The windows were rolled up on the car. Temperatures were in the mid-70s, with 50-percent humidity.

There was also a bag of suspected marijuana in plain view inside the car, police said.

Officers arrived and unlocked the car, freeing the child. Westlake Fire took the child to the hospital for an evaluation because no one was sure how long the child had been locked in the car. The 14-month-old was responsive, but crying, police noted.

Cuyahoga County Children and Family Services were also called to the scene.

While police were on the scene, a 23-year-old Cleveland man returned to the car. He told officers he "completely forgot" his child was in the back seat. He was taken into custody and charged with endangering children and possession of marijuana.

Investigators are looking at surveillance footage to determine how long the child was left inside the car.

The 14-month-old was released to its mother, police said.
