Back-to-School Scavenger Hunt, Computer Round

Here are five things you should know today.

1) The Service Center's Computer Round Up starts today and continues all week. Collections will be 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Westlake Service Center. This service is for Westlake residents only. No materials from businesses, churches or schools will be accepted.

Items accepted include CPUs, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, terminals, software, modems and cell phones.

2) Get the kids ready to go back to school with the program at . Poe is going to kindergarten in the fall and needs help to find his school supplies. Kids ages 6 and under can search the preschool area every day this week and match up pictures for a prize.

3) Expect more rain this morning with a high near 74 degrees. The National Weather Service is predicting between a half and three quarters of an inch today. Tonight should be dry but cloudy with a low near 67 degrees.

5) Today is the 66th anniversary of Japan's surrender to the Allied forces, and the end of WWII. Because of the time difference, the day is often celebrated on both Aug. 14 and 15, but most prefer Aug. 15. Americans consider Sept. 2 as the official V-J Day because the formal surrender ceremony was performed that day, but the British have named Aug. 15 their official V-J Day.
