On the ballot

City of Westlake under siege

Last Wednesday, citizens of Westlake held a forum for Whats on the Westlake Ballot. When you look at the ballot from each ward, it all seems like business as usual. But when you step back and look at the whole of Westlake, something seems odd. This year, our Law Director is retiring. We have 2 candidate running. The Mayor has decided that HE and only HE should decide who that should be. Oddly, this year, the Mayor is also trying to take control of the City Council. He has actively been going door to door supporting the challengers to the President of City Council, Wards 5 and 6. That's 3 Council votes. Why? Why now? Why give the Mayor his job, control over City Council, and power over the Law Director? I like the Mayor very much. I'm not assigning any nefarious subterfuge to him. I'm just wondering if we are so close we don't see the whole picture.

Thank you to a full house of citizens who turned out.

My mother always told me that women have to be better than men. Smarter. Work harder. Rise above. Fortunately, she believed that was easy for us women. And I thought so too, until I received a pink campaign piece in the mail. Now all you need to get votes is to proclaim that you have a uterus. And the 3 women running ban together, so what is the very first thing they support? Giving away the voters rights to decide who is going to be law director, AND GIVING AWAY THEIR OWN COUNCIL SEAT RIGHTS TO ACT AS BALANCE. Hey, no worries. If Issue 54 loses and these 3 win, they can begin the work of making sure it gets done by hook or by crook via the Charter Review in 2 years. So your vote next week for a Law Director could be overturned now, or overturned without you deciding. But hey, they wear pink, so that's all that matters.

Right?
