Car Chase Ends In Multi-Vehicle Crash In Westlake
Police said an attempted theft was broken up in the parking lot of Hyland Software and one suspect tried to drive away.

WESTLAKE, OH — Employees at Hyland Software stopped a pair of license plate thieves in their parking lot on Tuesday, according to Westlake Police. One of the suspects escaped in a stolen car and led police on a chase that ended with a multi-car accident on Detroit Road.
Multiple callers said there was a fight happening in Hyland's Clemens Road parking lot at 1 p.m. As officers rushed to the scene, they learned employees had actually interrupted a theft in progress and were trying to detain two suspects.
One of the two suspects wriggled away and jumped into a stolen car, speeding away from the scene. Westlake officers gave chase and pursued the suspect through Bay Village and then back into Westlake.

The chase ended when the suspect crashed into several other cars on Detroit Road, near Cahoon Road. There were multiple injuries, police said, but none appear life-threatening.
A Westlake Police spokesperson told Patch the two suspects were trying to steal license plates from cars parked at Hyland. The license plates on their stolen car were taken from another vehicle in Cleveland. The spokesperson speculated they may have been trying to secure new license plates for their stolen car.
