Car Crashes Through Garage At Westlake Condos

Police said no one was hurt in the accident.

WESTLAKE, OH — Westlake residents that commute to Cleveland may have found their normal routes more congested than usual thanks to a collapsed garage. Sadly, that wasn't the only destroyed garage Westlake residents have encountered in recent weeks.

At about 10:30 a.m. on September 14, police got a call from a condominium association on Detroit Road. The callers said someone had driven a vehicle through one of the garages on the property.

When police arrived they found that a vehicle had, indeed, driven through the inside of the garage and burst through a rear wall. No one was inside the garage when police arrived.

The car was actually registered to a condo resident. He told police that he was driving into the garage when the brakes "went out." The man was not hurt in the accident.

Police said a damage report was taken for the property. The Westlake Fire Department examined the scene and determined the garage was not in danger of collapsing.

On Wednesday morning, a Cleveland garage collapsed, possibly due to the collection of rain weighing the structure down. The destruction shut down some Cleveland streets and knocked out a traffic light, Cleveland Police said.
