Cleveland Museum Of Art Puts WHS Students To Work

Westlake High School students took part in the prestigious Museum Ambassadors Program for the fifth year.

WESTLAKE, OH - Ten Westlake High School students got to go behind the scenes at one of the world's leading art museums. The students, all part of the AP Art History and International Baccalaureate Theory of Knowledge program, took part in the Cleveland Museum of Art, Museum Ambassadors program.

Students were selected via application. This year’s participants are juniors Gwynnie Ball, Abby Falcone, Jade Hawk, Dena Hussain, Rachel Kaiser, Riley Larcey, Carolyn McBride, Emily Nebraska, Adalee Ratycz, and Jonathon Shear.

The program allows the students to explore different departments within the museum, with the goal of enticing students into a career in the arts. The program is also meant to help students hone their public speaking and team-based project planning skills.

At the end of the group's year at the museum, the students plan a Family and Community Day, during which they share what they've learned with the public. Previous Family and Community Days have included scavenger hunts, coloring books, tours, and studio activities.

This year's group of Ambassadors are hosting their Family and Community Day on April 9. Their program runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The day's activities will include a puzzle-like task that will allow patrons to recreation a portion of one or two pieces of art from the museum's permanent contemporary collection. Patrons will then be able to either keep their creation or add it to a large mosaic of the replicated pieces that will be displayed in the museum's atrium. The event is free and open to the public.
