Demon Sports Report: Buffington Wins Tennis Tourney
The Demons tore it up on the tennis court and broke records on the track.
Tennis
Colton Buffington beat two of his three competitors at the State Tournament in Columbus on Friday and earned a spot in the semifinals. The sophomore beat Ruben Geearaet of Centerville, 6-1, 6-0, and Nicky Wong of Lexington 7-5, 3-6, 7-5.

The Demons had several regional qualifiers at Amherst on Friday. The 200 meter relay team of Stephanie Robb, Erin D'Ettorre, Maddie Sandhu and Sarah Stachowiak set a new school record and won fourth place.
Senior Kalpana Beach earned second place in high jump and the 400 meter relay team of Robb, Hayley Smik, Sandhu and Stachowiak earned fourth place.

There were many others who placed, but did not qualify for regionals like the 800 meter relay team of Robb, Liz Kobe, Madison Dunlap and Charlotte Tate who set a new school record and earned fifth place. Hayley Smik placed second in long jump and Kelli Essi earned third in the 100 meter hurdles.
Boys Track and Field
The Demons Track and Field team placed 7th of 17 in the district division tournament at Amherst on Friday with some regional qualifiers. Jack St. Marie set a new school record and earned second place in the 3200 meter, 9:24:18.
The 800 meter relay team of Josh Buzzard, Gavin Kelly, Jack St. Marie an Peter Ogonek took fourth place. Elias Chbeir took second in shot put and fourth in discus, and Alex Schultz earned fourth place in pole vault.
Boys Baseball
The boys baseball team , 4-13, ending their run in the district semifinals. The team ended their season Tuesday with a makeup game at Midpark.
Fast Pitch Softball
The Demons beat North Olmsted 9-5 on Thursday, with pitcher Jesse Moracz finishing out the entire game. The junior also hit a double and scored a run. Junior Mackenzie Gambetta also got a run, 4 RBIs and went 3 for 4 with a double. Sophomore Jamie Screen scored two runs and had one RBI.
On Friday, the team lost to Amherst, 7-1. Juniors Sarah Turgeon and Julia Kosco had a double each. Junior Laura Campbell earned a single and an RBI, and Mackenzie Gambetta got an infield single.
Softball
The Lee Burneson Middle School softball team is the Southwest Conference champions with a 10-0 record.
