Driver Hits Car, Keeps Driving In Westlake: Police

Police said the driver had a bottle of vodka on the floor of her car.

WESTLAKE, OH — A 31-year-old driver rear-ended a car and then tried to drive away from the accident, according to police.

On Dec. 19, at 6:30 p.m., a driver called 911 in Westlake and said her car had been hit by a white Buick. The car did not stop and was driving away, so the caller followed the Buick until police caught up.

The Buick ran a red light at Dover and Center Ridge roads before officers pulled it over, according to a Westlake police spokesperson.

The Buick's driver was a 31-year-old woman from Lorain. She told police she thought she was in Avon. There was an open bottle of vodka on the floor of the car and the woman appeared intoxicated, police said.

Police took the woman into custody. At Westlake Jail, she took a breath test and was over the legal limit, police said. The 31-year-old is accused of operating a vehicle impaired and leaving the scene of a car accident.

The 31-year-old was later released to a sober relative, police said.
