Driver Tosses Jars Of Suspected Meth, Weed Out Of Car In Westlake

WESTLAKE, OH — Mason jars of suspected meth and marijuana were tossed from a car being pursued by Westlake police on Thursday night. The driver has been charged with felony tampering with evidence, according to a police spokesperson.

At about 8:30 p.m., officers tried to stop a car on I-90, near Canterbury, for driving violations. The driver was slow to pull over and appeared to be throwing bags of suspected narcotics from his window.

The car finally pulled over, but as police were trying to get the man out of the car, he threw his vehicle into drive and took off again. Police gave chase and the man again stopped his car. The chase only last about 90 seconds, police said.

After stopping a second time, the man threw his keys out of the car. He was then taken into custody without incident, police noted.

Officers searched the roadway near the car and found mason jars of suspected methamphetamine and marijuana.

The driver, a 40-year-old man from Elyria, has been charged with felony tampering with evidence. Additional charges for drug possession and traffic violations will be presented to a Cuyahoga County Grand Jury, police said.
