Drunken Driver Hits 83-Year-Old Woman's Prius In Westlake: Police

The 83-year-old was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

WESTLAKE, OH — An 83-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after her car was hit by a drunk driver last week, police said. The other driver was arrested at the scene of the crash.

Several callers reported a serious car accident on Center Ridge and Dover Center roads. Police said the accident happened at about 4:40 p.m. on October 7.

Officers arrived and found an 83-year-old woman with serious injuries. The woman was rushed to a hospital for treatment. The other driver was not injured.

Police said the 83-year-old had been driving a Prius when was hit by a woman driving a Chevy Equinox, a much larger vehicle. The woman driving the Equinox, a 73-year-old from Westlake, reportedly told police she had been drinking wine while watching the Browns game at a friend's house.

Officers noted signs of impairment in the 73-year-old and field tested her. She was then arrested for operating a vehicle impaired. Police offered to breath test the Equinox driver. She then reportedly said, "I know I'll be over."

The 73-year-old took the breath test and tested over the legal limit for alcohol.
