Drunken Driver Passes Out In Car In Westlake, Police Say

Police said the man stopped on an exit ramp and fell asleep at the wheel.

WESTLAKE, OH — A man fell asleep at the wheel of his car after stopping an exit ramp from I-90 onto Clague Road. Police said the man failed sobriety tests and was taken into custody for driving impaired.

Police were told about an unconscious driver at 1:30 a.m. on September 28, Westlake police said. Officers went to Clague Road to investigate.

When police arrived they found a man asleep at the wheel and an open beer in the driver's cup holder. Officers roused the 27-year-old driver and asked him for his driver's license. He tried to hand police his cell phone.

Police asked the man out of the car and put him through a series of field sobriety tests. He was then taken into custody on suspicion of operating a vehicle impaired. The man's car was towed off the exit ramp.

At the Westlake police jail, the man took a breath test and blew two times over the legal limit, police said. He has been charged with operating a vehicle impaired, open container, and prohibit breath alcohol content.
