Drunken Driver Tried To Bribe Man After Accident: Westlake Police
A drunken man caused a car accident in Westlake on Friday, police said.
WESTLAKE, OH — A Westlake man drove drunk, caused a car accident and then tried to bribe the other driver involved in the crash, police said.
At 11:15 p.m. on Friday, callers reported a car accident near Detroit and Dover. The two involved cars pulled into the parking lot of Ace Hardware.
Police said the driver of one of the cars became "aggressive" and tried to leave. Officers had to stop him from taking off.

The man told police he had "messed up" and he was "drunk," a police spokesperson said. He then admitted to offering the other driver $1,700 to leave and forget the accident, polcie said.
Westlake police said the man appeared intoxicated, so they gave him a sobriety test. He was then taken into custody on suspicion of operating a vehicle impaired. He was taken to Westlake Jail.

The man faces charges of operating a car imparied and failure to maintain assured clear distance. He took a urine test at Westlake Jail and could face additional charges based on the lab analysis of the urine, police said.
