Drunken Driver Wrecks SUV, Lawn In Westlake

WESTLAKE, OH — A heavily damaged SUV was seen driving west on Center Ridge Road on early Monday in Westlake. The vehicle had no front bumper, a dangling rear bumper, one headlight and one tireless rim.
Callers told police to check out the SUV at 3 a.m. on Monday. Officers caught up to the vehicle on Center Ridge near Dover Center.
The airbags in the SUV had been deployed. The driver said he did not know what happened, but he thought he hit a fence. He admitted to drinking and was then field tested. Police said the driver, a 28-year-old man from Westlake, was taken into custody on suspicion of operating a vehicle impaired.

At Westlake Jail, the 28-year-old tested two times over the legal limit for blood-alcohol content.
Hours later, a resident on Northglen Drive called police and said someone had driven through her yard. Car parts were scattered around her property.

Police determined the SUV hit a fence, trees and other landscaping. The 28-year-old driver has now been charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
