Drunken Mother Drove With Kids In Car In Westlake, Police Say

WESTLAKE, OH — On New Year's Day, callers reported a drunken driver near Crocker Park. There were two children inside the car, according to police. Callers said the driver may have hit another car.

At 7:30 p.m. on New Year's Day, police found the car on Main Street. There were three people inside: a 37-year-old Westlake woman, and her two children, ages 5 and 8.

The woman said she thought she had hit the curb and added she "wasn't trying to hit anyone's car," police said. She appeared intoxicated, police noted, and she was field tested while officers distracted her children.

Officers then had the woman walk away from her car, and her children, to take her into custody. She was taken to Westlake Jail and police waited with the children until their father arrived to pick them up.

The woman faces charges of operating a vehicle impaired and endangering children.
