Elderly Neighbors Threaten Each Other In Westlake: Blotter

A 70-year-old man threatened his 76-year-old neighbor over a property line dispute.

WESTLAKE, OH — Good fences make good neighbors, Robert Frost wrote. Two elderly Westlake men forgot that lesson and threatened each other with bodily harm over a property line dispute last week. Read on for more information on that incident and others from the past week.

Petty Theft, June 9 - A 52-year-old Westlake man paid for two items at Giant Eagle but somehow walked out with two bags full of merchandise. Store employees were suspicious, because the man had done something similar a few hours earlier. Staff confronted the man and the man fled. The man was identified and arrested at his home for petty theft.

Theft, June 9 - A Westown Boulevard man's juvenile sister may have stolen $4,000 from the man's home. The girl is believed to be in New Jersey with a female relative that is estranged from the rest of his family.

Menacing, June 10 - Two neighbors on Marshfield Boulevard got into a spat over the property line. Ultimately, a 70-year-old man threatened a 76-year-old man over the dispute. The prosecutor will rule on a possible menacing charge.

DCI, June 11 - Police arrested a 26-year-old Westlake man who was passed out on a bench in front of a Crocker Road business.

Theft, June 11 - A car parked on Sherwood Drive was hit by prowlers. About $460 cash was taken from the vehicle. Police say the car was unlocked at the time of the theft.

DCI, June 11 - A 32-year-old Lakewood man made suicidal remarks after passing out in a Detroit Road business' bathroom. The man was attended to by Westlake Fire. When he made the suicidal remarks, he was transported to St. John Medical Center.

Fraud, June 12 - Someone in California has attempted to open cell phone accounts using a Rose Road woman's identity. The phone provider contacted the woman about the failed attempts to open the accounts and the woman then contacted Westlake Police.

Petty Theft, June 12 - Staff at a Detroit Road store caught a 16-year-old North Ridgeville boy trying to steal $23 worth of merchandise. Staff detained the boy until Westlake Police and boy's dad arrived. The boy faces petty theft charges.

Vandalism, June 12 - A rear passenger window was broken on a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe while it was parked at a Center Ridge Road business. The car belongs to a North Olmsted company and repairs for the damage are estimated at approximately $500. The damage to the vehicle occurred between May 30 and June 12.

Theft, June 12 - Prescription medications were stolen from an Avon Lake man's 2017 VW 4-door on the night of June 12. The man is a ride service driver and he believes that medications were stolen by a fare.
