Hyland Software and MetroHealth are teaming up once again for the fourth annual Hy-5 Race. The event includes a 5K run and a one-mile fun walk, which will take place on Saturday, May 19 at Hyland Software’s corporate headquarters in Westlake at 28500 Clemens Road.
In honor of MetroHealth's 175th anniversary, proceeds from this year's race will fund general support of the MetroHealth mission. Through its corporate responsibility initiatives, Hyland Software has been a dedicated supporter of MetroHealth. Last year's Hy-5 attracted more than 800 participants and raised over $42,000.
Among this year’s participants will be Lisa Perez of Aurora, who has been featured in MetroHealth ads as a comeback patient. Lisa collapsed while on her daily jog when an irregular heartbeat caused her heart to stop. Metro Life Flight rushed her to MetroHealth, where cardiologists who specialize in heart rhythm disorders implanted a defibrillator to re-start her heart should it ever stop again. Today, Lisa is back on track, and she plans to run in the race. She will be accompanied by her husband and their four children – who are undergoing gene testing with MetroHealth’s heart rhythm specialists in an effort to prevent potential heart problems. Lisa will share her comeback story minutes before racers take off, and her children will sing Happy Birthday to MetroHealth to cue the start of the race.

Also running will be participants from MetroHealth’s Aamoth Family Pediatric Wellness Center, which provides free exercise classes and nutrition information to pediatric patients and their families. Just one year after the Center’s opening, many participants have reported losing weight, staying active and eating healthier.
