Fentanyl, Meth Found During Westlake Traffic Stops

Police said they found suspected narcotics, along with needles and other paraphernalia, during traffic stops.

WESTLAKE, OH — Police found suspected methamphetamine and suspected fentanyl during two traffic stops in Westlake.

According to police, they stopped a car near the Red Roof Inn at about 4:30 p.m. on July 12 for a traffic violation. When officers spoke with the two people inside the car, a man and a woman, they noticed signs of drug use, police said.

A Westlake K9 unit was called and reacted to the car. Police found needles, cut straws, pipes and other drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, along with suspected meth.

Police said they took both people inside the car into custody. The man, a 38-year-old from Amherst, is accused of felony possession of meth. The woman, a 32-year-old from Geneva, is accused of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Six days later, on July 18, police stopped a car on I-90, near the Crocker Road exit. There were two people inside the car.

The driver, a 24-year-old Elyria woman had a suspended license and there were signs of drug use in her car. The passenger, a 28-year-old from Sheffield Lake, said he was a recovering heroin user, police said. Officers searched him and found a used hypodermic needle.

Officers then found suspected fentanyl powder in the man's possession. He was then taken into custody on suspicion of felony drug possession.

The driver was cited for driving with a suspended license and then released.
