Get Out: Big Trucks, a Fishing Derby and More!

Kids can get the catch of the day, climb in a semi-truck and maybe even learn a little history this weekend.

 

It’s Thursday, and you have no idea what to unwind for the weekend. Don't worry; Patch is coming to your rescue! Check our picks for the activities to hit on your time off.

Where/When: , 10 a.m. to noon Saturday

 Why Go: Have you ever wondered what the interior of a huge city truck or semi-truck looks like? Get a chance to see and tour the larger trucks that the city uses to keep things running or the trucks from local businesses that are used to ship goods. Bring the kids because all ages are welcome to explore. Sit in the driver’s seat and look out for a different perspective than you get sitting in your own car.

Pricing: Free Admission

Where/When: , 9 a.m. to noon Saturday

Why Go: Bring your children ages 12 and under to catch as many fish as you can. Hone your skills in completely stocked pond; full of bass, crappie, channel catfish, blue gill and trout. Pack your own fishing pole, a parent and your own stocked tackle box to sink a line and have some fun!

 Pricing: $10 per child, free for required parent or guardian.

Where/When: The Sullivan Family Gallery, 7-9 p.m. Friday

 Why Go: Explore the culture of Mexico through art with the entire family. The advanced ceramic students at BAYart have put together an entire collection of their own local works of art, featuring pottery and sculpture for the home and garden inspired by the rich culture of Mexico. Go to browse or pick up some inspiration of your own!

 Pricing: Free Admission

Where/When: , 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday

Why Go: Browse through the treasures from the Westlake Historical Society and take some of it home with you! Purchase an antique set of nicknacks or just browse and munch on free popcorn. If antiques aren’t your style, make a donation and have a 100 year old red brick, from the OLD Red Brick School, engraved with your phrase of choice and added to the at . The proceeds from the sale will benefit the Westlake Historical Society’s efforts to build the collection of artifacts and restore those items that need work.  

Pricing: Free

Where/When: The on Friday from 6 to 9 p. m.

 Why Go: Have fun with your family and get to know other families in the community with a full evening of craft activities, refreshments and games. Also, the pool will be open, so bring your swimsuits and be prepared to jump right in!

 Pricing: YMCA member admission is $5, free for accompanying family members.
