Groundbreaking To Be Held For New Westlake School

The facility will house pre-K through 4th grade and should be open by the 2019-2020 school year, the district said.

WESTLAKE, OH — Construction on Westlake newest elementary school building is slated to begin Sept. 25, with a groundbreaking ceremony at 5 p.m. The building will be across the street from the Westlake United Methodist Church, 27650 Center Ridge Rd.

The school building will house pre-K through 4th grade. The district said it expects the facility to open to students for the 2019-2020 school year.

“We are excited to begin the next chapter in our district’s history of delivering educational excellence,” said Superintendent Scott Goggin in a statement. “This new state-of-the-art facility will enable us to provide our students with the resources they need to thrive in a top-notch learning environment.”

The groundbreaking ceremony will include the usual ceremonial "turning of the dirt" by Goggins, Westlake Mayor Dennis Clough, the Citizens for Westlake Schools Campaign team, and others. With the groundbreaking ceremony, the school district will into the second phase of its Master Facilities Plan. Phase II of the Plan includes renovating the high school track, parking lot repairs, replacing the high school's core network switch, replacement of the Board office's roof and more. “This project was made possible thanks to the commitment of the Board of Education and the efforts of the Citizens For Westlake Schools Campaign Committee,” said Goggin. “We thank the Westlake community for supporting our pursuit of excellence for all Westlake students.”

After the groundbreaking, community members are invited to attend the Board of Education meeting at the Westlake Porter Public Library.

Parking for the event will be available at the Westlake United Methodist Church. There will also be limited parking at Westlake Porter Library.
