Hotel Guest Attacked, Rooms Burgled: Westlake Police

A Cleveland teenager is being accused of breaking into rooms at the Sonesta Suites and stealing property.

WESTLAKE, OH — A Cleveland teenager allegedly broke into hotel rooms, stealing items and assaulting guests at the Sonesta Suites, Westlake Police said. The teenager was arrested about four hours after reports began coming into police.

At about 3:30 p.m. on July 18, Westlake Police got a call from a guest at the Sonesta Suites. The caller said that someone he did not know got into his hotel room and assaulted him. The man then stole items from the caller and ran off.

Police arrived on the scene and quickly determined that other hotel rooms had also been entered by the same man. In all, there were three victims of theft. The other two victims were not in their hotel rooms when the teenager allegedly got inside, police said.

Officers examined security footage from the incidents, and deployed other investigative techniques, and were able to located the suspect on an RTA bus. Police said the teenager was still in possession of some of the stolen items.

The Cleveland teen was arrested about four and a half hours after the first report of a burglary came in. The teenager has been charged with several felonies, including aggravated burglary, police indicated. A follow-up investigation is ongoing.
