Lexus Stolen From Driveway In Westlake

Police said a Westlake resident ran inside their house and left their car running in the driveway. When they came back, the car was gone.

WESTLAKE, OH — A car stolen in Westlake in mid-April was found by the Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority police. The vehicle was found largely undamaged, according to a Westlake police spokesperson.

At 8:30 p.m. on April 17, a Westlake resident on Canterbury Road said their car had been stolen out of their driveway. Police believe it was a theft of opportunity.

The resident parked their Lexus in the driveway and then ran inside their house to grab something. They left their car keys in the car and the engine running.

When the resident returned, the car was gone.

Investigators used the car's GPS system to track it to E. 42nd Street in Cleveland. That's when the housing authority officers were asked to step in.

The car was found parked on E. 42nd Street. The car was empty and hadn't been badly damaged.

Detectives searched the vehicle and gathered evidence. A Westlake police spokesperson said police are following up on the evidence.
